Real interesting read about the behind the scenes look at Disney workers and how it really is working for the Mouse. Great information about the college program. I have encouraged my nephew to apply.
This is the first Ears book I did not enjoy and as a matter of fact did not make it through. The narrator comes across as condescending at times and spends more time than I'd care for talking about her college and home state. I found this book, while honest to her experience, to be dry and simply lacking the magic you feel while reading other Ears books.
Love her positivity! So many times reading this i got the happy Disney feelings- Got teary eyed a few times too! My niece in the College program now and this book gets me so excited for her adventure!
I really like the Earns their Ears series, as each story is different but it's about the same program. Katie Earns her Ears was an enjoyable ride and really well done. It shows that not everyone who goes into the Disney College Program have to work for Disney if they don't want to. I loved that each chapter title was a fitting Disney song lyric, and the stories told in the book are funny. I couldn't put the book down. I look forward to more in the Earns their Ears.
This is the fourth installment of the ".....Earns Her Ears" from the small but inimitable & original publishing house of Bob McLain, specializing in Disney books. Each of these four delightful and fun to read books has presented us with the first person tales of a young woman working her way thru the Disney College Program or "DCP", starting with the agony and delight of the application process, first days, "earning her ears" and what's it like to be a trainee/intern cast Member at the Most Magical Place on Earth. I think it's great that Bob has given these young people the chance to be published authors at this early stage of their life.
Katie talks about her experiences frankly, but with a generally family and Disney friendly tone. This may be a "tell all" book, but it's not a "muck raking book" . However, Katie does tell about her issues with working there and with the Program- it's not all magical fairy dust by any means.
Of course, the book is loaded with DisneyWorld trivia and "behind the scenes" insider info. Great for Disney fans. I do have one problem with the series tho- it makes me want to be a DCP and I am a bit too old for that now!
Too much whining by the author. Seriously in need of a copywriter or proofreader. At times very confusing as she writes as if we all know these people. Mixes up pronouns.
And she's majoring in English, and planning to get a graduate degree in creative writing?? I hope she learns English and writing skills before graduation.
Oh, and teaching isn't a career "to fall back on". You have to have the desire, the spirit, the urging and most importantly the calling to be a teacher. I know. I taught over 25years teaching middle
I loved reading how a small town Texas girl survived in one of the most demanding programs! Especially being placed in one of the busiest locations in all of Disney!! You rock girl!
